Police say one person died after an officer-involved shooting in downtown Atlanta Monday night.
The incident happened on Ted Turner Boulevard near Baker Street just before 8 p.m. outside the Aloft hotel.
Atlanta
police said that officers attempted to pull a car over on a routine
traffic stop. The driver allegedly didn't stop. Police began to pursue
the vehicle, which then struck a light pole and a hotel shuttle bus.
After
crashing, police said the driver of the vehicle surrendered. The
passenger in the vehicle fled behind the Aloft hotel. There was an
exchange of gunfire, and the passenger was killed. No officers were
injured.
Tuesday morning, the Fulton County medical examiners office identified the passenger as Darius Smith, 18, of South Carolina.
